Supporting Adam in High School: A Guide for Teachers & Staff
Adam is an eager and determined student, excited to begin his high school journey. As he navigates this new chapter, he will need some additional support due to Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). While he faces unique challenges, he is highly motivated to learn and participate like his peers. With understanding and guidance, Adam can thrive in both academics and social settings.
We appreciate your support in helping Adam reach his full potential. Below is some helpful information to ensure he has a positive and successful experience at school.
Health & Safety Considerations
Adam’s primary challenges involve food regulation, communication, and physical limitations. With some structure and supervision, he can manage these effectively.
🔹 Food & Mealtime Supervision:
Adam requires close supervision during meals to prevent sneaking food from classmates.
He is only allowed to eat food from his lunchbox, as his diet must be carefully managed.
During school events or celebrations, he can have a small portion of food, but only with supervision
Adam is allowed a small portion of healthy food in the Breakfast Club, with monitoring by the staff .
The School canteen staff should be aware of Adam's food monitoring, and he may occasionally purchase small
portions.
🔹 Speech & Social Support:
Adam has severe speech delays, making it difficult for him to express himself clearly.
Patience, visual aids, and encouragement will help him communicate more effectively.
He may need gentle guidance in social situations, as limited speech can make it harder to connect with peers.

Adam sometimes experiences frustration when he cannot express his thoughts or emotions.
He may show some behavioral challenges, but he is not aggressive.
A structured environment and positive reinforcement help him stay engaged and comfortable.
